The club
Who we are
The Club d’Immersió Biologia (CIB) is a non-profit sports organization founded in 1983, within the Faculty of Biology at the University of Barcelona, to address the needs and concerns of students at the time, just one year after the faculty had moved to Diagonal Avenue. Many of the founding members later became professors and chairs at the faculty, strengthening a bond between the club and the university that continues to this day.
From the very beginning, the CIB‘s diving philosophy, as well as the guidelines for its diving courses, were aimed at promoting environmentally respectful diving and fostering the parallel training of many marine biology students. In this regard, and framed within a clear service vocation, the CIB has worked and continues to work on the development of its four foundational pillars:
Training
Training of certified divers through basic and advanced diving courses, within strict safety margins, good training, and respect for the marine environment.
Dissemination
Dissemination of Marine Biology and the underwater world through all available means: courses, conferences, workshops, and audiovisuals.
Activities
Organization of leisure activities, with group diving trips, meetings, and excursions that encourage participation and mutual understanding among members, expanding their underwater, cultural, and social knowledge.
Environment
Environmental Protection, through collaboration in awareness and education campaigns on respect for the marine environment, fostering in our members a vocation as marine naturalists.
Board of Directors
The CIB is managed by a Board of Directors that sets the club’s operational guidelines.
The CIB Board of Directors currently consists of:

Laura Figuerola

What we want – CIB Philosophy
More and more people are practicing this sport, and if we want our visit to have the least possible impact on the environment, we must be careful and follow some basic tips when diving. Here are the basic rules for environmentally respectful diving. What we find underwater in the future depends on us!
Balance our buoyancy so as never to touch the bottom.
Maintain a sufficient distance from the bottom and walls so as not to damage the organisms living there; be careful with the movement of fins and hanging instruments to avoid rubbing against them.
Do not touch live organisms or lean on them.
Do not take anything from the seabed; to keep memories, we can practice underwater photography.
Do not disturb or feed the fish.
Do not disturb filter-feeding organisms (gorgonians, sponges, anemones…). If we do, we interfere with their feeding process and harm them.
Remember that spearfishing with air supply is prohibited.
Inform yourselves about existing regulations in protected areas we visit and respect them. If we find any element dangerous for divers or animals (such as nets, fishing lines, pollutants…), report it.
Do not leave waste on the bottoms we visit.
Keep in mind that bubbles accumulating in caves and overhangs harm the organisms living there.
Try to leave the bottom better than we found it. Collect and deposit any waste found on the bottom in appropriate places.
Limit yourselves to observing, thus not altering the balance of the marine ecosystem.
Try to learn more about marine life; this will allow us to enjoy it more.
