Species Guide

This species guide reflects CIB’s conviction that, as a diving club based at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Barcelona, our duty as divers and as an organization was to strive to launch the best possible website about the species that can be observed in the Mediterranean. This project began in 2008 and has long since established this website as the leading resource in Catalan and Spanish for species inhabiting the Mediterranean. It is also the result of a collaborative project with the faculty’s students, who over the years have researched and drafted the content for a significant portion of this guide’s species profiles. The advantage of this project is that it is ongoing. This allows us to incorporate all new species that may be found in the Mediterranean, while also constantly updating the guide with the frequent changes that occur in taxonomy. We hope this tool will be useful to all biology students, both from the UB faculty and from any other scientific or academic institution worldwide.

Glossary

The glossary of the CIB marine species guide aims to be a tool for all those interested in these organisms who do not have a strictly scientific background in marine biology. Therefore, we aim to schematically present the various groups and families of Mediterranean marine fauna and flora, and we also strive to facilitate the understanding of scientific language.

In this way, we want to help improve the understanding of their structures and the functions performed by the different parts of their bodies. We hope it is helpful.
