Marine Life

In this section of the CIB website, you’ll find the basic marine biology knowledge needed to enjoy your dives in a new way. What follows is not just a simple guide to the species you might encounter on your dives; we aim to share insights into the marine environment to help you better understand the world we explore every time we dive.

Often, biologists, in order to study nature (not just underwater), use terms like communities, ecosystems, biocenoses… words that often define complex concepts describing a piece of nature. In fact, they are necessary to help us better understand how the living part of the planet functions.

However, here, we won’t use any of that. We will try to describe the different parts of the marine environment that divers visit on our excursions; that is, we will look at the ecological characteristics, flora, and fauna of each type of dive.

It should be added that the descriptions provided for each dive may not be entirely strict (at least scientifically strict), but they will closely approximate what one can actually observe. Each type of dive corresponds to a habitat that may present different topographical characteristics, leading to a landscape more similar to other types of dives. For example, in a shallow dive, we find certain species, but if there is a wall that is poorly lit, it is possible that species more similar to those found in deeper dives may be present there.
